Doubles is Back! Update 13 Sept

Good news! Doubles is returning to Mills Park Tennis Centre.

Following some changes to the NSW health advice today, from Tuesday 13 September, people aged 16 and over who have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will be able to play doubles at specific times or take part in group coaching with up to 4 players at Mills Park.

Playing Doubles

At this stage we welcome doubles play at specific times only at Mills Park for people who live in Hornsby LGA or within 5km of Mills Park and are able to show evidence of being fully vaccinated. Information on how to show proof of your vaccination status is explained here.

Book a court online during one of the following time slots, typing “doubles” in the comments field when you hire a court. When doubles players enter Mills Park, our centre manager Tim and/or committee members will act as COVID marshals at these times to confirm all doubles players are aware of the NSW Health requirements.

Group coaching

People able to show proof of vaccination can attend coaching sessions of up to 4 players at Mills Park or Berowra at any time.

Players who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19

If you are not able to show proof of being vaccinated the current restrictions remain in place - singles and 1:1 coaching only – except for people in the same household.

Berowra Tennis Centre

Casual court hirers at Berowra are still restricted to singles play only, unless all players are from the same household. We are currently considering the ramifications for doubles play at a venue where we have no onsite COVID marshals and hope to be able to offer doubles play at Berowra soon.

Travel to Mills Park & Berowra Tennis Centres

If you live within Hornsby LGA you can continue to play at either Mills Park or Berowra Tennis Centres. If you live outside Hornsby LGA, you must live within 5km of Mills Park to play there, and you will not be able to play at Berowra.

You must check in using the Service NSW App when entering the centre.

c) Masks must be worn when entering and leaving but are not required when you are playing.

d) “Play and Go”. Please leave the centre as soon as your exercise is completed.

e) All other “physical distancing” measures and COVID-19 rules as advised by NSW Health are to be followed (see the NSW Health website).

Tennis NSW also has provided advice specific to playing tennis and the COVID restrictions here.

We have BIG news! HKDTA wins $1m grant to upgrade our facilities!

HKDTA has been awarded a $1m grant to upgrade and improve our facilities at Berowra Tennis Centre. The grant has been awarded as part of the NSW Government’s Greater Cities Sports Facilities Fund and the ATP Cup Tennis Legacy Fund.

This grant is the largest grant HKDTA has ever been awarded in its nearly one-hundred-year history and has been made possible largely by the hard work of HKDTA’s Treasurer, Jonathan Gray. An engineer by trade, Jonathan had a vision that would take Berowra Tennis Centre to a new level of sporting facility not before seen in Berowra.

The upgrade will include new accessible toilets, showers and changerooms and much needed LED court lighting and court resurfacing. But not content with a standard upgrade, Jonathan’s vision includes making Berowra Tennis Centre a leader in renewable energy integration and incorporates water capture and re-use, capture and storage of solar power for court lighting and an electric vehicle charging station!

Work is expected to start later this year and we will be keeping you up to date along the way. We hope this project leads the way for other sports clubs like HKDTA to work with government and their peak bodies for the improvement of facilities that benefit both their members, the local community and the environment.
